Grief Winter Weekend
13.03.21

“Grief is a door to vitality”

This weekend will be all about learning and sharing together, welcoming life and growing our own personal relationship with mourning. We consider grief to be a very important part of life, and yet so few of us have actually learned about it. Grief is not just about the loss of a loved one, but involves any unwanted change or loss in our life. Here are a few examples we have heard during past workshops:

- the end of a relationship
- physical/emotional distance with someone or people I care about
- loss of housing / home move
- unmet needs in my childhood
- the inner critic I live with
- loss of health / illness
- loss of job
- loss of hope (e.g. concerning the environment or racism)

Most of us know loss, sadness, grief and yet very few of us have ever learned how to mourn. We do not learn that unpleasant emotions and pain have a very important role in our lives. What we do learn is to put our pain to the side and continue on with life, as if everything is “normal” when it is all but that. We hide our tears for ourselves and others, while sharing our pain can actually be healing and help us find back our joy for life.

A few themes and practices that we will address:

- tools to deal with your own mourning due to loss or change in your life
- the wisdom and meaning of emotional pain and how grief functions
- what holds us back from grieving
- the difference between pain and suffering
- how celebrating and mourning are interconnected
- building support that really helps when you mourn
- supporting others with little or big mourning
- practicing and connecting in duets & trios
- body connection
- group sharing
- a down-to-earth ritual that brings acknowledgment of your loss

From the trainers, Mirjam Schulpen and Cara Crisler:
“Next to our personal experience with mourning, our 20+ years of supporting others to be with and benefit from their emotions and needs gives us great satisfaction and pleasure. We look forward to giving you inspiration and practical tools (deriving from Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication model and others) that you can apply and move in the direction of vitality.”

To register, please send an email to info@mirjamschulpen.nl with: your full name, the date of the weekend you wish to join, any questions you may have. We will then reply with further information and a payment request (€250).

“I am surprised by how helpful it was for me to attend this training, which provided a gentle and safe learning environment for me to connect with my inner wisdom. I got clarity on what I need to mourn as well as how to do that.

“Mirjam and Cara gave a lot of space and warmth to get in touch with the pain that I was scared to get in touch with. The trainers were both very honest with their own struggles with grief. I felt connected and safe throughout the entire workshop.”

“I am very grateful. This training clarified for me what mourning is about. The learning materials, especially those with images, really enhanced my knowledge. Mirjam and Cara are very talented in listening in an empathic and supportive way that gave much space and helped me feel understood.”
